The School of Politics and International Relations and School of Psychology at the University of Nottingham invites applications for a Senior Research Fellow to support a Nuffield Foundation-funded project, "From Rivers of Blood to Rising Seas: Attitudes to Climate Migration". Working in partnership with Climate Outreach, the project investigates how people in Britain understand climate-linked migration, and how their views are shaped by race, colonial legacies and migration histories. It centres the perspectives of ethnic minority communities with heritage links to climate-vulnerable Commonwealth countries, setting today's climate-migration narratives against the racialised debates that surrounded post-war migration to the UK.
You will take a leading role across the project's mixed-methods design, with particular responsibility for its qualitative strand: designing and facilitating focus groups with ethnic minority and White British participants in Nottingham, Bristol, Manchester and London, and analysing the data using NVivo and Critical Discourse Analysis. You will also contribute to a critical historical discourse analysis of migration narratives and an expert-consensus Delphi study, disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications and conferences, and work closely with community partners, policymakers and the project's Advisory Group.
You will hold a PhD in a relevant field, with a strong publication record and demonstrable experience of qualitative methods. Experience of research on race, migration, public or environmental attitudes, and of working with community organisations, is desirable.
This is an exciting opportunity for an established researcher to shape a high-profile programme at the intersection of race, migration and climate change, and to build a national reputation through publication and public impact.
