The Department of Music at the University of Nottingham is looking to appoint a Teaching Associate in Ethnomusicology. You will have a PhD qualification or equivalent in Music, and an emerging or established career as an ethnomusicologist nationally and/or internationally. You will have an advanced and wide-ranging knowledge of the field of ethnomusicology. You will have previous experience teaching ethnomusicology at HE level and experience of assessment at HE level. Your primary duties will include delivering the teaching and assessment of the undergraduate module Approaches to Popular Music (Levels Two and Three) and the supervision of undergraduate students researching ethnomusicological topics. In addition, you will serve as the administrator of a research symposium. You will contribute to an exceptional education for undergraduates in music and make an exceptional contribution to the Department’s teaching profile and culture. You will be keen to pursue opportunities for teaching development, impact, public engagement, and/or interdisciplinary work. You will offer pastoral support to students as a Personal Tutor and be keen on championing and promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives. Shortlisting is by criteria-based questions based on the person specification, rather than CV or letter. As a Teaching Associate you will be expected to: Deliver innovative teaching. Contribute positively and proactively to the Department’s teaching culture. Assess Undergraduate students in music. Take a proactive role in the pastoral support of students, dealing with sensitive issues. Be responsible for administrative duties. Organise a research symposium. This is a fixed-term, part-time (21.75 hours per week) role commencing 1 February 2027 until 30 June 2027.
